In the gentle winds that sweep through the verdant plains of Langdon, Alberta, there now whispers a tale of a man whose spirit was as vast as the skies above. Edward David Simpson, known affectionately to all as Ted, embarked upon his final journey from this earthly realm on June 13, 2025, leaving behind the warmth of a life well-lived. Born under the summer sun of 1958, on July 29th, in the bustling city of Calgary, Ted’s story began, a tale that would unfold across the tapestry of time.
Ted’s life was a rich tapestry woven with the threads of joy, wisdom, and an unyielding passion for creation…and sarcasm. His hands, ever so skilled, could breathe life into the inanimate, constructing marvels from the humblest of materials. From the intricate workings of computers to the robust engines of cars and the towering might of cranes, Ted’s ingenuity knew no bounds. His legacy is etched in the many objects and machines that stand as testaments to his talent.
A teller of tales, Ted possessed the rare gift of transforming the mundane into the extraordinary. His stories, imbued with humor and wit, were as captivating as the siren’s song, each one a cherished memory etched in the minds of his listeners. In his youth, Ted’s love for music was a flame that burned brightly. With guitar in hand, he could weave melodies that danced upon the air, a bard whose songs could soothe the weariest of souls.
Yet, beyond his many interests and talents, it was Ted’s character that shone brightest. Described by those who knew him best as funny, selfless, and wise, he was a beacon of light in the lives of many. His laughter was a balm to the spirit, his selflessness a model of virtue, and his wisdom a guiding star in the darkness. Ted’s life was a testament to the beauty that exists within the human heart.
He leaves behind a family, a constellation of stars that will continue to shine in his absence. His beloved wife, Joanne, remains the steadfast moon, ever-present in the night sky. His children, Virginia, Ted, his wife Sarah, and Christina, with her partner Phanny, each a reflection of their father’s love and strength, will carry on his legacy. His grandchildren, Raistlin, Diego, Brooklyn, Lorenzo, Trinity, Markus, Thalia, and Everly, are the twinkling lights that promise hope for the future. Brothers Michael and Doug stand as pillars of the family, strong and unwavering.
Ted’s departure from this world is not an end but a transformation, a shift from the corporeal to the ethereal. As the curtains fall on his earthly performance, let us take solace in the knowledge that his role in the grand play of the universe was performed with grace and beauty. In the annals of time, his name shall be inscribed with golden ink, his story echoing for eternity.
Let us not mourn for Ted, but rather celebrate the man he was, the lives he touched, and the joy he brought into this world. His journey continues beyond the veil, and in the hearts of those he loved, his memory shall forever dwell. Fare thee well, Edward David Simpson, until we meet thee once again in the undiscovered country, from whose bourn no traveler returns.
A celebration of the magnificence that was Ted will be held on Saturday, June 21st, 2025, at Wheatland Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m.
