Edward ‘Gene’ Brown of North Salem, NY, died on Thursday, September 4, 2025, one day shy of his 98th birthday.

Gene was born September 5, 1927, in New York City to the late Edward E. & Mary (Noonan) Brown. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx and joined the United States Navy at the very end of WWII. After serving his country, he used the GI bill to attend NYU and Champlain College, playing football at both.

On April 24, 1954, Gene married the love of his life, Mary Jean Hand, in a ceremony at Sacred Heart Church in Bronx, NY.

Gene lived most of his adult life in Parkchester in the Bronx where he and Jean raised their three sons. He worked in Customer Service for IBM in New York City and later for Kodak. He moved to North Salem, NY in 2022.

Gene was passionate about all sports, especially softball, skiing, and football. He was a New York Baseball Giants Fan and eventually became a Mets fan.

Gene is survived by his three sons and their spouses, Andrew & Andrea Brown of North Salem, NY, Gregory & Monica Brown of Saucier, MS, and Christopher Brown of Stevensville, MI; his seven grandchildren: Three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and his sister-in-law, Sheila Brown. He was predeceased by his loving wife in 2016 as well as his siblings, Ida Roche, James Brown, and Thomas Brown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. St. Lawrence O’Toole Church on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 10:00am. Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday September 9, 2025, from 4pm – 8pm at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave, Brewster, NY.
