Edward Almquist

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Edward N. Almquist, 90, of Yorktown Heights, who died Friday evening, May 2, 2025, at his home. He was the devoted husband of Joan L. (Slattery) Almquist with whom he shared 69 years of marriage. Their relationship began at the age of two, when their parents walked them around the neighborhood in a shared stroller.

Born in 1934, in The Bronx, he was the son of the late Axel Helmer and Sigrid Marie Almquist and lived there until 1995, when he moved to Yorktown Heights with his wife.

Ed served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1952-1955 and then served in the Army National Guard of NY from 1955-1962 as a machine operator; his working career began as a factory worker in the production department for Ball Chain Mfg. in Mt Vernon and retired a foreman after 60 years.

He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in The Bronx. He was known for his dedication to his family and kindness to all he met. All animals had a special place in Ed’s heart, and he devoted much care towards their well-being. In addition to his wife, surviving are two children: Karin Almquist of White Plains, NY and Edward Almquist Jr. and his wife Donna of Taylors, South Carolina. He is predeceased by a sister, Corrine Almquist.

In lieu, of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to The Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 611 Granite Springs Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598; https://www.guidingeyes.org/
