Earl August, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on October 10, 1938, in Pasadena, California, Earl lived a full and vibrant life defined by hard work, humor, and deep connections with others.
On December 17, 1988, Earl married the love of his life, Eleanor Ann August. Together, they shared many joyful years filled with laughter and love.
Throughout his life, Earl wore many professional hats. He was a skilled sewing machine salesman, an eyeglass frame and case salesman, and later the proud owner of Golden TV Shop in Bakersfield, CA. He was also a devoted member of the Elks Club for 65 years, during which he formed numerous lifelong friendships and gave back to his community.
Earl was a man of many passions. He loved playing poker, hosting get-togethers, watching football, and treasure-hunting at yard sales. Known for his open-hearted spirit and inclusive nature, Earl welcomed people from all walks of life and many cultures into his home and his life. One of his greatest sources of pride was his 108 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Earl’s legacy is one of kindness and humor. He leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Eleanor August of Hemet, Ca., a cherished sister, Deanna August Millis of Nipomo, California; and his six children: Steve August of Bakersfield, CA; Jan Schalis of Fort Bidwell, CA; Cynthia August of San Marcos, CA; Mimi Mack of Hemet, CA; Richard Hetherington and Dakota Hetherington, both of Lewisburg, TN.
A memorial service will be held on June 23rd at 4:00 p.m. at Cabot & Sons Funeral Home in Pasadena.
