Dwight D. Battle

Dwight D. Battle, Sr. 72, of Waco, passed away on October 29, 2025, after a period of declining health. In his final days, he was comforted by family and friends. Everyone who knew him will remember his wit and kind heart.

Dwight was born on August 15, 1953, at James Connally Air Force Base in Waco to Daniel M. Battle and Josie Lee Battle. He went to Jefferson Moore High School in Waco, where he sang in the choir and met Elaine, who would become his wife. After high school, he joined the United States Army. Dwight and Elaine married on March 7, 1974, and had two children. He served in the Army for more than 12 years, living in both Europe and the United States. In 1986, Dwight brought his family back to Waco and worked at the VA Regional Office for 20 years. He enjoyed music, singing, playing basketball, and cheering for the L.A. Lakers and the University of Texas Longhorns.

Dwight accepted Christ as his Savior and was an active member of St. Luke A.M.E. Church. He was known for his encouraging words and for always keeping in touch with family and friends.

Dwight was preceded in death by his father, Daniel M. Battle Sr.; his mother, Josie Lee Battle; his brother, Michael Battle; his sister, Cheryl Williams; and his brother, Daniel M. Battle Jr. 

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Battle; his children, Dwight D. Battle II, and Michelle Battle (Timothy); his special niece, Chermeyon Thomas; his grandchildren, Tymonie Battle, Shimora Battle, DeSolomon Battle, Zayda Malone, and Remy Battle; great- granddaughter, Genesis Battle. He is also survived by his brothers, Malcolm Battle (Mary) of Houston, and Bertrand “Buddy” Sallard of Waco; his sister, Karen Seale of Gatesville; niece, Marquita Battle and her husband; and many other friends and relatives.

The family of Dwight D. Battle, Sr. acknowledges with deep appreciation your kind expressions of sympathy.
