Maysville, Missouri….Duane Bryan Swofford, age 90, was born February 4, 1934 to Carl and Alma Swofford in rural Gallatin, Missouri and passed away peacefully at his home January 21, 2025.
In 1938 they moved to Princeton, Missouri where Alma taught school. Duane and his sister, Wilma, had to ride a horse to the rural school when he was in the 2nd grade and Wilma was in the 1st grade. In 1941, they bought a farm and moved to Spickard, Missouri. Duane graduated in 1952 and his Dad drove him to Kansas City and told him to get a job. Duane went to work for Braniff Airlines, where he was employed for 30 years. In 1956, he got drafted and served in the United States Army (worked in Personnel) from 1956-1958 and was stationed in Germany. In 1961, Duane met Frances Zurilla, of Cresson, Pennsylvania on a blind date bowling. They were wed on June 17, 1961. Francie didn’t want to start a family until they owned their own house. In 1963 they bought a house in Kansas City, Missouri and to this union three daughters were born; Renee (1963), Pamela (1965), and Joyce (1967). In 1972 they purchased a 40 acre farm in Maysville, Missouri from Everett Joy and moved to Maysville permanently in 1979, where our daughters were active in sports.
Duane served as President for the Maysville Booster Club in 1984-85. He worked at Vivco Trust in Maysvile and MFA Exchange for 12 years. Retired at 62 years, then he and Francie started “The Statuary” business at their home and continued that until she passed away in September 2020. Duane did not miss many community and athletic events, served and loved this community and was a member of the Fairport Lions for close to 40 years.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; Carl and Alma Swofford, his wife Francie of 59 years, and two brothers Thom and Perry Swofford.
Survivors include his three daughters, Renee Munson, Pamela (Brent) Stanton, Joyce (Rick Ruggeri) Swofford; sister, Wilma Edgar; brother-in-law, Bob Chislow; Grandchildren, Kent Munson (Allie), Brad Munson, Haley (Cole) Holiday, Brett Hogue, and Taylor Stanton; Eight Great Grandchildren, Josie, Stevie, Jett and Tripp Holliday; Tae and Owen Thomas, Parker Munson; nieces, nephews, many other relative and a multitude of friends.
Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Turner Family Funeral Home of Maysville with burial following at Centenary Cemetery, Gallatin, Missouri. Memorial Contributions: Fairport Lions Club. Online condolences: www.turnerfamilyfuneral.com
