Doris Morazes

Doris Helen (Wilchinsky) Morazes, age 94 of Stratford, beloved wife for over 70 years to the late Allan Otto Morazes passed away peacefully at home Saturday, June 28, 2025. Doris was born in Bridgeport on July 17, 1930, daughter of the late Anthony and Helen (Kramer) Wilchinsky. She was predeceased by her brother Joseph Wilchinsky. She was a life-long resident of Connecticut, except for the 14 years they spent living in Lynchburg, Virginia.

After being a proud graduate of Warren Harding High School, Doris began her professional journey in banking. She began as a data entry operator and with determination and diligence rose up through the corporate ladder to become an Associate Vice President at Connecticut National Bank and Lafayette Bank and Trust. Her work ethic and commitment were evident to all who worked alongside her.

Family was the heart and soul of Doris’s world. She celebrated every achievement, with her voice being heard always cheering from the stands. It began in the early days being supportive and encouraging to her children and continued on to being so proud and committed to her grandchildren’s successes. Grandma would be seen at any athletic event, cheering with unmatched enthusiasm. Whether it be on a hot day at a baseball field or a freezing cold ice rink, she was there. She would clip newspaper articles about her grandkids’ sports accomplishments and would share their victories with everyone. Doris was a beacon of encouragement that left a lasting impression.

Bingo was more than a pastime for Doris, it was a passion. She became what you call a “regular” at several bingo halls, cherishing the camaraderie it brought into her life and rarely would miss an opportunity to play. When not playing bingo, she was home, watching the New York Yankees, UCONN Husky girls basketball or any other sporting event. She loved watching with Dad, knew all the players names, along with their personal and team stats. She also found peace in knitting, making things as gifts was her quiet reflection of the care that she extended to others.

Doris will be remembered for her boundless generosity and kind spirit. She had an open heart and her thoughtfulness knew no boundaries. She gave freely without expecting anything in return. Her warmth radiated through every smile and every act of kindness she performed. Doris touched countless lives with her gentle presence and unwavering support. Even towards the end of her life, when anyone would come to check on her at home, she would embrace them with her beautiful, sweet smile.

Survivors include her devoted children, Allan D. Morazes and his wife Beth of Howardsville, VA and Dorrine H. Sopko of Stratford. Also her pride and joy, six grandchildren, Joseph Sopko III and his wife Michelle, Nicholas Sopko and his fiance Liz, Daniel Sopko and his wife Rachel, Allan Morazes and his wife Brittney, Shay (Morazes) Taylor and her husband Xrunn and Stacie (Sopko) Laforte and her husband Brandon. She also had six beautiful great-grandchildren that she adored, Addison Sopko, Brayden Sopko, Nathan Sopko, Finley Taylor, Paige Morazes and Cade Taylor, along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral service celebrated by Father Peter Cipriani on Monday, August 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford.

Friends and family may visit starting at 10:00 a.m. before the service.

Interment will follow at Mountain Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Avenue, Bridgeport.
