It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Ford, who left this world on September 6, 2025, at the age of 92. Doris had been a long standing resident of The ARC Mid-Hudson for many years most recently calling Ludington IRA her home for the past 14 years, and spending many memorable years before that at Brimstone IRA.

Doris was stylish, sassy, and spirited. She loved her fancy wigs and making sure her nails were polished in pretty colors. Back in the day she looked forward to the PARC ball where she would dress in the most beautiful dresses. Doris was a talented crocheter who made beautiful blankets, scarves, hats and lovely sweaters over the years. Her creations weren’t just crafts, they were heartfelt gifts she lovingly shared with those she cared about.

Food brought Doris joy, especially her favorite meal, chicken and orange soda. Though she always asked for “Roy Rogers,” everyone knew she meant KFC. Shopping was another favorite pastime. While she insisted she wanted to go to Marshalls, it usually turned out that she meant Michael’s, but either way, she was happy.

Doris had a playful heart and a sharp sense of humor. She knew exactly the kind of man she liked and would often joke, “That’s my man, are you jealous?” And of course, we always answered, “Yes, absolutely.”

She loved movies, especially The Karate Kid, Dirty Dancing, Sister Act, and anything with Whoopi Goldberg. She also enjoyed watching Magic Mike, Steve Harvey, and her beloved “Hoperah” (Oprah Winfrey). She proudly collected Oprah magazines in past years and wore her Whoopi Goldberg shirts. Her love of “funny pants” was legendary, always pointing them out with a giggle when someone wore a pair.

Doris loved to socialize, never missing a dance at The ARC. She loved to dance the night away, laugh with friends, and enjoy parties at home. She especially enjoyed inviting and reconnecting with friends from Brimstone, whom she never forgot.

Her stories were unforgettable. She often shared tales from when she first moved into the agency. She was a ball of fire back then, keeping staff on their toes. With a mischievous grin, she would tell people how she used to jump out windows. Then she’d smile and say, “I’m too old to do that now.”

A special thank you goes to the dedicated and loving management, nursing, and staff at Ludington IRA. You made it possible for Doris to come home, just as she wished — and provided her with compassionate care in her final days. Thank you for making her room pink, just the way she wanted it. Your kindness and devotion mean more than she could ever express.

Doris was truly an amazing person who brought light, laughter, and love to everyone who knew her. Her presence will be deeply missed by her housemates, the staff who cared for her, and the many friends whose lives she touched.

Rest in peace, Doris. You danced through life with joy and style — and we will carry your spirit with us always.

Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm on Friday September 12, 2025, at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave, Brewster, NY.
