In loving memory of Doreen Joan Cablik (Grant)
May 10th 1944 to July 17th 2025 (81 years)
Doreen was born in Sheringham England. She spent her young life in and out of boarding schools and always kept a watchful eye over her dear sister Pauline during these difficult times, which formed their very special bond. She worked in sewing factories as a young woman in Britain.
She married Peter Cablik and gave birth to her son Anton in Chatham-Kent, England. She moved to Canada in 1967 gave birth to daughter Murrium in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. The young family relocated to Thompson MB in 1969 and stayed the course.
Doreen spent many of these early years in Thompson running in home daycares and basically raised so many other children along with her own. She definitely had a knack with children and it was a very well-run ship. She made space in her life and home for everyone she cared about. At the same time, she cleaned many homes and businesses in the community.
Later in life she started her lengthy career as a caretaker for Mystery Lake School Division and made quite a name for herself especially at Westwood Elementary School, only to retire at the age of 72.
Gardening was her passion and her yard was her pride and joy. The hours would slip away for her as she was happiest puttering in her yard. Her haven.
She loved her family and grandchildren immensely and she touched their lives in ways no one can really imagine, ever the confidante, caregiver and even soulmate. She did every craft imaginable and shared this love with her grandchildren at the well-known craft table and room in her home.
In her retirement years Doreen was happiest in her yard, having coffee with her coffee buddies at McDonald’s (the latest hangout), face-timing with her Sister Pauline, puttering, planting, drinking tea, and always helping the family in any way she could. She could make any four walls into the coziest and most inviting “home”.
Near the end of her days the “chemo girls” who looked after her with a special kind of love, became like family to her and she was forever grateful, looking forward to their special chats. It became her social outing.
Doreen was loved by all that were lucky enough to know her she and loved back in return. She will be fondly remembered and be forever in our hearts.
She leaves to mourn her children, Anton Cablik (Lorise), Murrium McKay (Gary),
her grandchildren Tessy-Lee Mckay (Matt), Dillon McKay, Shianne Gray, Tony Cablik (Madison), Luke Cablik (Kailyn), and great grandchildren Lyla McKay, Ella McKay, Quinn Cablik, Mikena Throassie, and Owen McKay.
Her Sister Pauline Coles (Steve), Brother David Mueller, Sister Joanne Wild (Martin),
Her brother Simon Grant (Natalie), along with many nieces, nephews and countless family and friends.
Doreen was predeceased by her parents Florence and Adolph Mueller and biological father Gordon Grant, her former husband Peter Cablik, and loving partner Buster Gurney.
