DONALD “DON” WANGERIN, 85 of Wallace, MI passed away on Tuesday July 29, 2025 at home following a hard-fought battle with cancer surrounded by family and friends. Don was born on February 29, 1940 to Wilbert “Pinky” and Mae (LaPointe) Wangerin. On September 2, 1961, Don married Dorothy Havelka, a marriage that lasted for 61 years until her passing on June 7, 2023. Don owned and operated Wangerin Logging with his son and grandsons for many years. Don loved being in the woods, hunting and restoring Farmall tractors. His prized possession was his 1975 Big Horn semi. Above all else, Don’s pride and joy was his family and he cherished the times they spent together. Don was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church.
Survivors include his 2 children: Tina (Mark) Matthews of Escanaba and Kurt (Missy) Wangerin of Stephenson; 5 grandchildren: Eric (Jenny) Mikus of Menominee, Brad (Nikki) Mikus of Stephenson, Travis (Katie) Wangerin of Wallace, Tiffany (Fiancé Sam Schewe) Wangerin of Stephenson and Tori (Henry Schaal) Wangerin of Appleton; 4 great grandchildren: Skylynn, Jackson, Brinley and Bristol; 2 brothers: Gene (Diane) of Stephenson and Tom (Chris) of Daggett; sister: Carol Lehto of Stephenson; many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents: Pinky and Mae; and his wife: Dorothy.
Visitation will be held at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home on Friday August 1, 2025 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Don on Saturday August 2, 2025 at Precious Blood Catholic Church at 10:00 am with Father Jins Joseph officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in Mellen Township Cemetery.
