Donald Torrance

Donald Maurice Torrance, former resident of Long Lake, Minnesota, passed away on July 12 at his home in Waite Park. He has born on April 29, 1939, to parents Eric and Ellen (Mattila) Torrance at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis. Following graduation from Central High School, Don studied at the University of Minnesota and then the Minnesota School of Business.

On February 3, 1962, he married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Olson. They lived in St. Louis Park before settling in Long Lake, where they resided until 2022. Don began his professional career in the accounting department at Gold Bond Stamps where he soon discovered his affinity for computer programming. He moved on to Honeywell where he worked for over two decades as a computer systems programmer and analyst before finishing his career in the same capacity at Shared Resource Management.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Don appreciated a good cup of coffee and a donut. Sharing these with family was his greatest pleasure. He was an enthusiastic cheerleader for his grandchildren’s sports. He also enjoyed collecting trains, cars of the 1950s, attending auctions with Pat, and fixing radios.

Don is survived by his children Dan (Kim) and Lisa (Ted); grandchildren Noelle (Brian), Isabelle, Caroline, and Jack; great-grandchild Cameron; and brother John (Diane). Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife, parents, brother Kenneth (Marcie), and grandson Hunter.

A celebration of Don’s life will take place at 11:00, Saturday, July 26, at Harvest Fellowship, 400 Second Avenue North, Sauk Rapids, MN. A lunch will be held at the church following the service. All are welcome.
