Donald Foster
Donald W. Foster, Sr., 80, of Damascus, Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 10th, 2025.Don was born in Washington County, Virginia, and resided in Damascus for most of his life. He honorably served in the Marine Corps, receiving the Purple Heart, and worked at Columbus McKinnon for 44 years before retiring. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Damascus and a faithful servant of God for many years. Mr. Foster was predeceased by his beloved wife of 45 years, Hilda Foster.
He is survived by his three sons: Timothy A. Foster of Richmond, Virginia; Donald W. Foster, Jr. (Missy) of Abingdon, Virginia; and Christopher C. Foster of Summerville, South Carolina. He is also survived by his sister, Marie Lampkins of Emory, Virginia; his brother, Glen Foster, Sr. of Emory, Virginia; his grandson Seth; and his six granddaughters, Brooke, Danielle, Hailey, Emily, Elizabeth, and Alyssa. He leaves behind great-grandsons Aven, Ashton, Oliver, and River, and great-granddaughters Ava and Amiyah.
He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Joanne Sapp of Ocala, Florida, and Hilah Coleman of Damascus, Virginia; his brothers-in-law, James Cato, John Cato, and Danny Plummer, all of Damascus, Virginia; and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Garrett Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Riverview Chapel at Garrett Funeral Home with Pastor Sam VanSlyke and Pastor David Matlock officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Mock Cemetery in Damascus, VA with military graveside rites conducted by the U.S. Marine Corp Honor Guard and Highlands Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 993, Damascus, VA 24236.
