Dennis “Denny” Alton Lyons, a distinguished figure in the world of golf, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, at Elizabeth House in Hendersonville, NC. Born on August 25, 1944, in Erie, PA, Denny lived a remarkable 80 years, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and dedication to the sport he loved.

Denny’s journey in golf began early, influenced by his father, Alton Harold Lyons, who was also a PGA golfer. A graduate of Northwest High School in St. Petersburg, Denny went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, where he led the golf team to numerous victories. His prowess on the golf course was evident as he won the Westchester County Golf Association’s open championship as an amateur in 1968.

His contributions to golf were recognized with his induction into the Western New York Hall of Fame in 1995, highlighting his significant impact on the sport in that region. Denny also played on the PGA Tour Champions, further solidifying his status as a prominent golfer. Following his active golfing career, he became a Professional Personal Golf Instructor, sharing his expertise with others, including serving as a personal instructor to Jeff Sluman, the 1988 PGA Champion.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Alton Harold Lyons and Margaret Agnes Holtz Lyons. He is survived by his sons, Anthony (Melanie Valentine) Lyons of Lake Worth, FL, and Jason Dennis Lyons of Stuart, FL; grandchildren Andrea Clarke-Lyons, Jason Dennis Lyons II, and Summer Annabelle Lyons. He is also survived by his loving companion, Karen Skalyo, and her daughter, Cheryl Nowak; and his sisters, Valerie Lyons and Sally Lyons Muzzy, both of St. Petersburg, FL.
