Deanna Lou Herboldsheimer Ross, 85, of Peetz, Colorado, passed away on August 6, 2025, the day before her 86th birthday, at Regent Care, Holyoke, Colorado. Celebration of Life will be at the Peetz Community Center, Peetz, Colorado at 10:30am on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, following a private family interment.
Deanna was born August 7,1939, in Kimball, Nebraska, to Hubert and Luella McKinney Herboldsheimer.
Deanna graduated from Peetz High School in 1957 and attended NJC in Sterling for one year. On July 6, 1958, Deanna married David Ross, in Peetz, and they moved to Cody, Nebraska where David worked on a ranch. Son, Dirk was born in Valentine, NE while they lived there (1959). In 1960, they moved back to Peetz, and David worked for his dad, Leslie, on the farm. Denise was born into the little family in September 1960. They soon moved to the ranch west of Peetz in 1961. Danelle was born February 1962 and DeVonne in August 1964, which completed the family.
Dave, Deanna and family moved to Wray, CO in the summer of 1969 to help with beet harvest and moved back to the Peetz in January of 1970 and lived there until the death of David in 2014.
Deanna was always involved in church and community. She was the director for Vacation Bible School at the Peetz Methodist church for several years, when her kids were growing up. She was an avid seamstress, making Barbie clothes for the girls, and clothes for all the kids, knitting and crocheting afghans for the kids and other people.
Deanna worked for Home Health Care 1985 to1990 and loved working with all those people.
Deanna was devoted in the care of her parents and parents-in-law while they were in Devonshire Acres.
She served on the Caring Pregnancy Resource Board and served on the Kairos Prison Ministry Board in Sterling, helping with the ministry team and serving meals to the teams that came to minister. Deanna was not a stranger to doing projects. She was very involved with church, church families and her own family, keeping grandkids and taking them on trips. She and David hosted a foreign exchange student, Hiroko, who did her senior year at Peetz High School.
Deanna bought a townhome in Sterling in 2015, after David graduated to heaven in 2014, and went back and forth from Sterling to the ranch at Peetz until she broke her hip and moved into Devonshire for rehab and was trapped in there because of the covid outbreak. Her health declined, and sadly, was no longer able to live alone.
Deanna accepted Jesus as her Savior when she was 13, at the Methodist Church in Peetz. She wrote “I first asked Jesus into my heart on March 22,1952 at the Peetz EUB Church. Pastor Glen McPherson led me to the Lord. Through the years I never really knew what I had done. I never really knew about a personal relationship with Jesus until April 1973 when we had a Lay Witness Mission at our church in Peetz. That weekend was when I made a total commitment to Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, God has changed my life in many ways.”
Deanna was a strong student and doer of the Word of God. Her family believed she had a direct line to God, as they would call “Gigi” for all their prayer requests. She was a prayer Warrior!
Part of the heritage that Deanna and David passed onto their four children and spouses, 13 grandchildren, their spouses and 21 great grandchildren, was knowing God and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. She challenged them several times to be the Salt and Light in this dark world.
