David Lyman Hill, a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025, in his birthplace of Henderson County, North Carolina, at the age of 84. Born on April 12, 1941, in the same county he called home throughout his life, David’s journey was one of dedication to family, community, and the great outdoors.
David spent his career serving with honor and integrity as a valued member of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department. Upon his retirement, he continued to inspire those around him with his unwavering commitment to the values of service and community. His colleagues were not just coworkers, but family, and his contributions to the department are fondly remembered.
An avid hunter and an outdoorsman, David was never happier than when he was surrounded by nature. Whether it was tracking through the woods or simply enjoying the peace of the natural world, he found solace and joy in the great outdoors. His passion for nature was infectious, inspiring those around him to appreciate and preserve the beauty of the world.
Though his path took him from his roots in North Carolina to experiences in Lincoln, Maine, his heart always remained with his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Foy C. Hill and Roscoe F. Hill, and his son, Robin D. Hill.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 29 years, Connie D. Hill; his loving son, Todd L. Hill of Edneyville, NC; and his stepsons, Tim Blanchard, Randy Blanchard, and Corey Blanchard. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Barbara White, and her husband Joseph, of Charlotte, NC. His lifelong friends, Vicki Bane, Rodney Raines, and Randy Case, alongside the members of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, held a special place in his heart.
A Memorial Service to celebrate David’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, with Reverend Bryan Melton officiating. In keeping with David’s generous spirit, those who wish to honor his memory may make memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
David Lyman Hill’s legacy is one of devotion, strength, and a lasting love for the natural world that surrounds us. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever inspire those who knew and loved him.
