David Raymond Craig passed away on October 8, 2025, at the age of 65. He was born on July 19, 1960, in Würzburg, Germany, to Donald and Delia Craig while his father was serving in the military.
David graduated from Coronado High School and later earned a degree in Land Management from Texas Tech University. Although trained in land management, David found his professional calling in computer programming. He mastered many early programming platforms and applied his skills at several communications companies before joining the Colorado Department of Transportation, where he made lasting contributions.
Athletic and energetic from an early age, David played little league baseball before focusing on tennis. Under Coach Shives in middle school and Jim Carter in high school, he became a strong competitor on the court. His doubles partnership with Robert Davis was a force to be reckoned with across Texas tournaments. Off the court, David could often be found windsurfing across playa lakes or skiing the slopes of Colorado—a place that always felt like home to him.
David was charismatic, charming, and adventurous. Though known for his stubborn streak, he had a magnetic personality that drew people to him. During his college years, he joined Delta Tau Delta at Texas Tech and created many lively memories with his fraternity brothers. His love for his alma mater endured throughout his life, as did his devotion to his beloved dog, Bear, and his passion for Red Raider football.
David faced personal challenges, including a lifelong struggle with addiction, which affected both him and those close to him. In 2017, he suffered a life-altering stroke, yet in the years that followed, he continued to find happiness, companionship, and peace. David’s resilience and spirit left an impression on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his son Austin Craig and daughter Holly Craig of San Antonio, TX; his sister Dana Craig of Gig Harbor, WA; his sister Carol Craig Reifsnyder and husband Andy of Santa Barbara, CA; and two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Delia Craig, and his brother Richard Craig.
The family asks that you honor David’s memory by fostering or adopting a shelter dog, or by donating to your local animal shelter, Humane Society, or SPCA. Donations to the American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking program or the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) are also appreciated.
Special thanks go to Techa Doggett for her friendship and care for David over the years. His remains will be spread across the mountains he so deeply loved.
Please share memories and photos of David on this site so that his spirit and stories may continue to live on. No services will be held.
