DARLENE SWEAT

Darlene Anne Driggers Sweat, 70, of Bannerville passed away Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka following an extended illness.

Born in Palatka in the historic Mary Lawson Hospital, Darlene was a lifelong resident of Putnam County. She grew up in Francis and had resided in Bannerville for the past 35 years. She was a 1972 graduate of Palatka Central High School and was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Palatka, and Palatka Moose Lodge 184.

In 2016, she retired from the Georgia-Pacific paper mill in Palatka as a tissue converting rewinder operator after 31 years of exceptional service. In her leisure time, Darlene enjoyed taking care of her yard, and riding in her golf cart as her dogs followed along behind her. She also relished visits with her family in upstate New York, and spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grands.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wyatt and Janet Bush Driggers; her grandson, Joey Levi Comer; a brother, Richard Driggers; and two sisters, Kathy Siemiatkoski, and Donna Wilson.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Jerry Sweat; a son, Jerry Lee Sweat (Carla); two daughters, Lena Comer (Shane) and Jessica Sweat; a brother, David Driggers (Shelley); a sister, Gail Smith (George); seven grandchildren, Josh Comer (Jennifer), Cody Comer (Shelby); Chase Comer (Erin), Camryn Comer (Kaleigh), Jacey Cothron (Michael), Lexi Sweat (Austin), and Audrey Sweat (Aaron); three great grandchildren, Ryleigh Comer, Kynleigh Comer, and Cayden Comer; numerous nieces and nephews; and her bestie, Linda Dively.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with Fr. Jared DeLeo officiating. Friends are invited to call after 11:30 a.m.—an hour and half before the start of the service. Committal and interment will follow in Providence Cemetery in Bardin officiated by Fr. DeLeo, assisted by Pastor Scott Coulliette.
