DANIEL “DANNY” RICHARD HEMPHILL

August 28, 1956 – September 2, 2025

It is with love and gratitude for his life that we share the passing of Daniel “Danny” Richard Hemphill, 69, affectionately known as “Bug Man,” of Interlachen, Florida. He found perfect peace at home on September 2, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Gainesville, Danny graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1974. With his wife, Carla, he founded the family business, Sentry Termite & Pest Control in 1989—proudly retiring in 2023 after decades of service to his community. Danny loved the outdoors, worked hard, had a quick wit, and cherished his role as “Papaw” to his four granddaughters.

Danny was a Baptist and a longtime member and clerk of Oak Ridge Chapel in Interlachen. He was active in many local organizations, namely: Rotary Club of Interlachen and Lakes Area (an Establishing Member and 1st President), Sunshine Rotary, Interlachen FFA Alumni, Putnam Chamber of Commerce, Putnam Fair Board, Habitat for Humanity, Putnam First Cancer Fund, and the Putnam Hospital, among others. He was honored as Top Businessman by the Chamber, and supported countless local programs—with Rotary’s “Happy Soles” initiative being among his favorites.

He is survived by his wife, Carla; sons, Adam (Crystal) and Seth (Katy Jordan); granddaughters, Marli, Averi, Kirra, and Laila; siblings, Rodger (Jackie), Ricky (Ann), Travis (Nita), Helen Provau, and Martha “Janice” Reese; good friend and colleague Kelvin Haire… as well as many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Isaiah Hemphill and Hilda Myerl Campbell; brother, Harrell; and sisters, Frances and Marilyn.

A service will be held Sunday, September 7th, at 2:00 p.m. at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with Pastor Carley Pearson and Pastor Donnie Miller officiating. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m.—an hour prior to the start of the service. His fellow Rotarians will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Interlachen. For those that cannot attend, the service will be livestreamed and may be viewed at www.vimeo.com/mastersfuneralhome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rotary Club of Interlachen and Lakes Area (P.O. Box 272, Interlachen, FL 32148), Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center (6400 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, FL 32177), or local youth programs.
