Corinne Cherwonick, age 80 of Hinckley, IL passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Hinckley, IL on Monday, October 27, 2025. She was born on April 17, 1945, in Chicago, IL the daughter of Elmer and Mildred (Mensik) Stahnke. She spent her formative years there before moving to Downers Grove as an adolescent. She felt she had moved out to the country then, little knowing she would later move to the real “country” to live out her last years in Hinckley (DeKalb County), Illinois.
Corinne was united in marriage to Mr. William Cherwonick on February 15, 1986 and they spent the next 27 years happily together until his passing on October 24, 2013. She spent most of her adult life in Naperville and was very active in the community, watching it grow around her. She had a passion for her garden club, local history, and adored the Naperville Municipal Band concerts in the park.
Corinne’s life was dedicated to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Most people who knew her called her “G.G.” just like her great-grandkids did. They were her pride and joy. She spent as much time with them as she could and was frequently heard saying that her great-grandchildren kept her young.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and sister who will be missed by all who knew her.
She leaves behind a hole in the lives of her daughter, Cary Sorensen of Naples, FL; her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Nathan Sorensen (Hunter, Hammond, Hayer, Holden, Hudson) of Hinckley, IL; Angela (Kristopher) Kerkera (Emmelina, Giddeon) of Rochelle, IL; Jacob (Flannery) Dziedzic (Arabella, Augustine) of Naples, FL; Caleb Sorensen of Naples, FL; Ashley Sorensen, IL; and Erin Sorensen, IL; her sister Linda (David) Biagi of Eugene, OR; and sister-in-law and dear friend, Penny Stahnke. She is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Corinne was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Mildred Stahnke; her husband, William “Bill” Cherwonick; her beloved son, Eric Sorensen; brother, Elmer Stahnke Jr; and great-granddaughter, Harper Sorensen.
Services are private.
The family kindly requests, for those who feel so moved, donations be made in Corinne’s memory to the Naperville Municipal Band, whose concerts she deeply cherished. (P.O. Box 474, Naperville, IL 60566).
