Constance Juanita “Connie” Pullum-Smith, 77, of Hartford, CT went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, June 10th, 2025. Connie was born in Portsmouth, Virigina and later raised in New York City. Connie moved to Hartford, CT, where she became a lifelong resident.
After having her oldest son, she joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member and even when she was unable to attend service she would do her own bible study at home. Reading her Bible and studying God’s word was one of the things she found great joy in doing. Connie lived a vibrant, faith-filled life that was centered around her family.
Connie was always the life of the party. You would know that she had entered the building because she would sashay her way to the dance floor. “No one could out dance her” when her arms went up you knew the party had just started. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Holidays are what she looked forward in celebrating because she enjoyed gathering with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Everyone knew that Connie could cook down the kitchen and bake you some of the best cakes ever. This was her own way of showing her family how much she loved them. Family was everything to her.
Throughout Connie’s career she served her community with dedication and strength. She worked for the New York Police Department and once she relocated to Hartford, CT, she was employed at the State of Connecticut Tax Department. She also worked for Deep (Department of Energy & Environmental Protection). It did not matter where she worked, Connie was known for her wisdom, warm presence and her love for helping others. If anyone needed help with filling out forms or where to find a job or even assist with their children, Connie knew how to make things happen.
Connie leaves a legacy of love behind to her devoted children: Glenn “Tommy” (Tina) Smith, Eric (Margaret “Meg” Avitable) Smith, Alicia Holliday (Eon Whitley), and her cherished grandchildren: Jason Arnold, Shanice Smith, Jason Stover-Smith, Ayana Smith, Jahmil (Yamillet) Smith, Tomi-Amil Smith, Eric, Jr. (Kerrie Lutes) Smith, Justin Smith, Maddi Smith, Summer Smith, Isaiah Smith, and Elon Whitley . She also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren: Aubrey Grimes, Janiyah Smith, Leilani Smith, Zendaya Smith, and Eric “Ter” Smith, III. She leaves one sister, Sarah Long and her best friend, Lilly Harper.
Connie was predeceased in death by her parents, John Pullum and Bessie (Reddick) Pullum; her husband Glenn Smith, Sr.; her longtime partner, Arthur Holliday; her six siblings: John Wesley Pullum, Jr., Mildred Proctor, Mary Parker, Levine Long, Irene Mitchell, Yvonne Dorethia Williams and Russell Pullum.
