Cheryl Ann Johnson

Cheryl Ann (Lawler) Johnson (known as Nana by most), 78, of the Carnes Community, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, in Hattiesburg. Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Carnes with interment to follow in Carnes Cemetery.

Cheryl was an active member of First Baptist Church of Carnes where she loved to volunteer in the children’s ministry. Occupationally, she raised chickens for Sanderson Farm many years. She also lovingly provided childcare for many children in the community including her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Most importantly, Cheryl submitted to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, and lived a life that pointed towards His sacrificial love for us.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Shelton Ray Lawler and Bennie Dola (Slade) Lawler and her brother, Tillman Gene Lawler.

She is survived by her son, Mike Johnson (Stacy) of the Carnes community and MaSha Clinton (Joe Mike) of Brandon. She is survived by her grandchildren, Britannie Grayson (Brandon), Breanna Grieco (Chris), Kailey Ryan (Jacob), Kade Clinton, and Bethany Robinson (Hunter); great grandchildren, Isaac, Luke, & Ezra Grayson and Asher Grieco whom she adored; siblings, Glenda Bounds (Charles) and Sillman Lawler (Veraga) of Sevierville, TN. She is also survived by her fur baby, Chase.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Carnes on Saturday, August 30th at 10:30AM-12PM
