Charlotte Jackson

With great sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our dearly beloved Mother, Charlotte Joyce Jackson (nee Newman) in her 100th year at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

Predeceased by her loving husband William Jackson, parents: Henry Newman and Annie Newman Chard, brothers: Edward, Hughie (wife Margaret) and Walter; sisters: Lucy Young (husband Ronald) and Joan Andrews.

Leaving to mourn with precious memories sons: Billy (Carmel) and David (Susan); daughter Charlotte Ann (Mark); grandchildren: Roxanne, Adam, Nicholas (Corinne) and Emily; 4 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law: Viola Newman and Ruth Newman as well as a large circle of special nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Mom was a war bride and sailed with 2000 other women and children from Halifax Harbour over the Atlantic Ocean on a 2-week journey to England to be reunited with the love of her life, her husband Bill, a Naval Officer with the British Royal Navy. 

She often reminisced and told stories of her early life in England and the decision to move back to Newfoundland after several years, abandoning a planned immigration to Australia, fearing she’d never see her family in Newfoundland again.

She was devoted to those she loved and displayed them in many pictures, old and new, on her walls and often shared her many photo albums with affection and enthusiasm. She dearly loved animals and was known to rescue a stray or two, providing comfort, care and compassion to little souls in need.

She was a resident at Karwood Retirement Retreat in Paradise and formed many special bonds with staff and residents alike. She enjoyed writing letters to family and friends and receiving their responses always made her day!

Visitation will be held at Barrett’s Funeral Home 73 Commonwealth Ave., Mount Pearl on Friday, July 18, 2025 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 -9:00 pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at 10:30 am from Barrett’s Mount Pearl Chapel. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Flowers gratefully accepted and donations in mom’s name may be made to the NLSPCA.
