Assemblyman and Carson City resident PK O’Neill announced that he plans to retire and will not seek re-election in 2026.
O’Neill said that as he is heading towards his 75th birthday, it’s time to step aside for someone younger who can bring “new ideas and a fresh perspective.”

O’Neill has spent eight years serving Assembly District 40, and has been a staple the community through events like cleanups, restoration projects, youth functions and more.
As the Assembly 40 representative, he has served Carson City, Storey County and a portion of Washoe County through several sessions, including as the Nevada Assembly Minority Leader.
Today, Stacy Woodbury of Carson City announced her candidacy to fill the seat.
“I am running for the State Assembly because I believe in the people of Carson City and northern Nevada,” Woodbury said. “This community has given me so much, and now I am ready to give back. I will bring trusted, common-sense leadership to the Assembly and work every day to make Nevada stronger for our families, our businesses, and our future.”
Woodbury has served as Deputy Chief of Staff in the Governor’s office, Chief of Administration for the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and Executive Director of the Nevada Commission on ethics. She plans to retire from the corporate world in 2027.
In Carson City, she currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Carson City Chamber of Commerce as well as the Western Nevada College Foundation, and was recognized as one of Carson City’s “Women of Distinction” earlier this year. She also raised her three children locally, and spent their childhoods volunteering in their schools and youth sports.
