Carson City Park Ranger-led programs in July feature Jr. Ranger owl adventure and scorpion excursion

Every month, the Carson City Park Rangers offer various ranger-led programs that include educational opportunities, historical fun, and exciting adventures. All programs are offered for free and take place in one of the many Carson City parks and open space areas.

Online Registration is often required so Park Rangers have a proper head count. All programs are subject to cancellation due to Park Ranger availability; registered participants will be notified.

You can find more information about each program here.

Jr Ranger Adventures Presents – Owls

Join the Carson City Park Rangers for a hoot of an adventure in our new Jr. Park Ranger Adventure Series! This session is all about owls – one of nature’s wisest and stealthiest hunters. Kids will have a whoo-tastic time learning about these fascinating creatures of the night and even get a chance to dissect a real owl pellet. Gloves and dissection tools will be provided.

We will be meeting on the Seely Loop of Mills Park at the Mills Amphitheatre from 10:00am – 12:00pm.

Date: Sunday, July 13, 2025

Time: 10:00am – 12:00pm

Location: Mills Park – Seely Loop

Need to Know:

— Online Registration is required by going here.

— Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult

— Dogs are welcome but must remain on a 6-foot leash

 Scorpion Excursion

Grab your friends and family and join the Carson City Park Rangers for the fifth annual scorpion searching event! You will be given a black light (or you can bring your own) to help in the search. They glow under the black light which makes this activity unlike anything you’ve done before. We will be adventuring up the Wild Horse Trail located at the North end of Centennial Park.

This activity is considered “More Difficult” under the IMBA Trail Rating system. Expect uneven terrain, rocks, and sandy sections under the night sky. Blacklights will be provided, so all you need to bring is water, closed-toed shoes, long pants, and your best black light attire!

Date: Saturday, July 26, 2025

Time: 9:00pm – 10:00pm

Location: Wild Horse Trail located at the North end of Centennial Park.

Need To Know:

— Online registration is required here.

— Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult

— Dogs are not allowed on this adventure as we don’t want them disturbing the scorpions.
