Carson City Fire Department called to Rand Avenue structure fire, happened during earthquake
The fire happened in the 1700 block of Rand Avenue on Monday afternoon. It started during the earthquake, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

UPDATE: The structure fire at a Rand Avenue residence has been knocked down, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, who said it happened during the earthquake and may have been caused by the earthquake.

Furlong also noted the deputy involved in the crash at Roop and William was not injured and there were no other injuries.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff’s deputies were called Monday afternoon to a structure fire in the 1700 block of Rand Avenue.

The fire was reported at 3:17 p.m. at 1791 Rand Avenue. Heavy smoke was showing. Multiple fire engines were called as was East Fork Fire and Truckee Meadows Fire.

People should avoid the area to allow firefighters to respond. Traffic is being diverted in the area.

Meanwhile, a Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a crash in the area of William and Roop streets, as they were responding to the fire. There was airbag deployment. The deputy said they were not seriously injured. It is unknown at this time if there are other injuries.

Motorists should avoid the area.
