Carson City Deputies apprehend strangler suspect out of Reno

On December 16, 2024, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported domestic disturbance in the Sun Valley area. The investigation led deputies to 9th and E Street in Sparks, where they located an unoccupied vehicle belonging to the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Anthony Selleck.

As the investigation continued, deputies attempted a traffic stop on a nearby vehicle identified as belonging to the victim. The driver failed to stop, fleeing the area by driving onto a pedestrian walkway, striking landscaping, and nearly colliding with parked vehicles. Deputies terminated the pursuit due to the public safety risk posed by the reckless driving. Subsequent information confirmed that Selleck was driving the vehicle at the time, with the victim as a passenger.

Later that afternoon, detectives developed information indicating that Selleck was in the Carson City area. Washoe County detectives, with assistance from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, responded to the location in an effort to locate the suspect.

Selleck was ultimately located in the Galaxy Theatre parking lot. Upon contact, he attempted to flee but was successfully apprehended by Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies. The victim was found nearby and was safely transported back to Washoe County.

Selleck was initially booked into the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility and transferred to the Washoe County Detention Facility on December 30, where he was booked on the following charges:

• Domestic Battery by Strangulation
• Domestic Battery with a Deadly Weapon
• Kidnapping, First Degree Resulting in Substantial Bodily Harm
• Assault with a Deadly Weapon
• Preventing or Dissuading a Victim or Witness from Reporting a Crime
• Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device
• Evading/Eluding a Peace Officer Endangering Persons or Property
• Reckless Driving
