Carson City area weather: Thunderstorms possible across region
- June 8, 2025

Scattered thunderstorms are expected Sunday afternoon and evening and possibly again Monday for Carson City and surrounding counties, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Main hazards include frequent lightning, gusty winds over 40 mph, heavy rainfall, and small hail.
According to the weather service, an increase in shower and thunderstorm activity is expected across the region Sunday afternoon into the early evening.
Initial thunderstorm development will be in the mountains, with the best chances (40 to 60 percent) in the Sierra from the Lake Tahoe Basin southward, as well as Mineral County and southern Lyon counties. NWS forecasters say thunderstorms will be capable of gusty outflows, brief heavy downpours, small hail and lightning.
Additional thunderstorms are possible near and north of I-80 as numerous outflows propagate northeastward across western Nevada during the late afternoon and early evening, NWS forecasters said.
Across western Nevada, weather models show the potential for strong outflow gusts of 50+ mph that may impact western Nevada communities, including the Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley areas, with blowing dust near sinks and playas across the Western Nevada Basin and Range, forecasters said.
Small hail and lightning will also be possible. Showers and storms will likely persist into the evening before tapering off by midnight.
Stay weather-aware and consider limiting outdoor activities during this time. A drying trend is expected Tuesday.
