Caroline “Carol” Bettencourt Souza, 96, of O’Fallon, IL, born on May 27, 1929, passed away on June 17, 2025, in Belleville, IL.
Carol was born in Ft. Totten, NY, and moved around many times in the first 20 years of her life following her father in the U.S. Air Force. At 20, Carol moved to O’Fallon, IL, where she lived the rest of her life.
Carol worked at Scott Air Force Base for nearly 36 years and retired as a computer specialist in 1984. She loved genealogy and working on her computer. Carol also loved music and sang in choir for 38 years. She was a member of the St. Clair Genealogical Society, NARFE Chapter 1019, DAR Belleville Chapter, and was also co-founder of the O’Fallon Historical Society.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, William B. and Katherine Morris Onderdonk Souza; and 3 sisters, Mary Elizabeth (Jack) Souza Pabarcus, Evelyn (Elmer) Souza Kish, and Katherine (John) Souza McLaughlin.
Carol is survived by many nieces, nephews, and special family friends.

A visitation will take place on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., at Schildknecht Funeral Home; 301 S. Lincoln Ave., O’Fallon, IL 62269.
A memorial service will begin on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Schildknecht Funeral Home, with Pastor Candice Wassell officiating. The burial will follow at O’Fallon City Cemetery in O’Fallon, IL.
