Carol Jean Mathison
June 18, 1935 – June 20, 2025
Carol Mathison of Edgerton passed away peacefully at age 90 after a long illness with her loving family close to her heart. She was born in Evansville, WI to Charles and Frances (Page) Hazlett and graduated from Evansville High School in the class of 1953. Carol met her high school sweetheart, Allen E. Mathison at a roller skating rink and they were married on February, 05 1955 in Evansville. Carol’s passion in life was singing. She was a longtime member of the Janesville Chapter of Sweet Adeline’s having numerous quartets over the years. In 1952 at the age of 16 her quartet won second place in a national competition and she always wore her winning pin on a chain around her neck. Another of her greatest achievements was getting her driver’s license for the first time at the age of 55 and much to everyone’s surprise, never had an accident or even got a ticket. She worked most recently in the jewelry dept. at the old Janesville Walmart until her retirement. She enjoyed gambling at the slot machines, scratching lottery tickets, rummage sales, auctions, jewelry, classical music and of course her family.
Carol is survived by her daughter Gail (Bob) Christiansen of Janesville, son Mark (Donna) Mathison of Edgerton, 10 grandchildren: Jennifer (Jim) Naughton, Matthew Mathison, Jason Lewis, Philip Schwartz, Alexandra (Jake) Loney, Mitchell Mathison, Stephen Baker, Joel Baker, Robert Baker and Crystal Nash; 9 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband “Al”, son Alan Mathison, daughter Frances Mathison Baker, sister Rosemary “Mary” Maxwell, 3 brothers: Charles Hazlett III, Alan “Bruce” Hazlett, John Hazlett and granddaughter Jessica Ryckman.
No public services are planned but a private memorial will take place at a later date.
