- July 25, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce that our wonderfully unique, sometimes challenging and always cherished “Mike”, “Michael”, “Miguel”, Grandpa Short passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, July 19th, 2025. Even with his serious medical issues, “he did it his way”, enjoying his last few months at home, taking his last breath there with his beloved wife, Lee-ann, and loyal cat, Romeo, by his side. Fortunately, we will always have fond memories of our time spent together, working on projects, listening to his interesting, often humorous, stories, and sharing in his love of music. With admiration and appreciation, we, along with many others across the United States, will forever treasure the clever, imaginative bronze sculptures and other artwork he created.
Michael was preceded in death by his deeply loved son, Ira, twin sister, Pat, and parents, Virginia and Carl.
He will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind including his wife, Lee-ann, stepchildren, Heather, and Doug, six grandchildren, Dustin, Hailey, Cassie, T.J., C.C. and Emma, great granddaughter, Rose, best friend and brother, Mark, five sister-in-laws, four brother-in-laws, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and others he considered as family.
At Michael’s request, there will be no services at this time. For those wishing to contribute a remembrance, please consider a donation to the Mayo Clinic or a local charity of your choice.
Michael, that last mile home together has been a true gift.
