Brush fire reported in Washoe Valley, Truckee Meadows, Carson City respond

Taken at around 3:16 p.m. Smoke has lessened and Carson City Fire Department brush truck has returned. The fire was reportedly 3 to 5 acres with containment expected tonight.

UPDATE 5:55PM: The fire has been mapped at 6 acres and is 50% contained, per incident command.

UPDATE 4:30PM: The brush fire in east Washoe Valley is reportedly 3 to 5 acres with 10 percent of the fire still active, according to BLM incident command. Estimated containment is tonight. No structures are threatened at this time, according to Truckee Meadows Fire.

Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, Carson City Fire Department and the U.S. Forest Service responded Saturday afternoon to a 1-2 acre brush fire on the east side of Washoe Valley in the Eastlake area.

The fire was reported at around 2:40 p.m. Details are unknown at this time though indications are that smoke was lessening. Carson City sent a brush truck, however PulsePoint indicates the brush truck has returned to quarters.

According to Eastern Sierra Fire and Ice, which tracks fires in the region, the fire was reportedly 1-2 acres with moderate rate of spread in grass and sage. There are indications that some other responding resources have also returned to quarters.

Elsewhere, Carson City Fire Department was called at around 4:10 p.m. to the landfill on Highway 50 East in Carson City for a small fire. According to Battalion Chief Micah Horton, the fire was small and is now out.

The cause is unknown at this time, however several fires at the landfill over the past few years have been attributed to people disposing lithium batteries in the trash.
