Betty Trite

Betty Joyce Baker Trite, born September 29, 1933 in Lantz, MD went home to be with the Lord on June 21, 2025. She was 91 years old. She was the daughter of the late Calvin and Rose (Hartle) Baker. She was the youngest of 12, and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
As a teenager, Betty met the love of her life, Charles Trite at Pen Mar skating rink. They married in July of 1952. Purchased a home in Pen Mar when they spent 67 years at the residence, turning it into a loving, comfortable home open to all. Betty loved to bake, cook and share meals with her family and neighbors.
In 1968, after serving as Pen Mar Little League treasurer, Betty was offered a position at the newly formed Ft. Ritchie Federal Credit Union (Patriot Credit Union). She remained with the credit union through several name changes, retiring in the mid 1980’s. Through the years she formed many wonderful relationships with co workers who became more like family.
After marrying, Betty and Charles became members of the Pen Mar United Brethren Church where she taught the youngest Sunday School for well over 50 years as well as taking on the treasurer position. She continued to attend church there until illness kept her away last December. Her church family meant the world to her.
She stayed active with her former high school friends, meeting up regularly for lunches and picnics. Betty was a huge Orioles fan, staying up on current players and watching games. Her favorite player being Cal Ripken, Jr. Over the years, she loved to sew, both clothes for herself, baby dolls and her grandchildren. The grand girls would count on her for easy alterations or quick hems.
Betty was preceded in death by her oldest son, Charles Trite, Jr and her husband, Charles as well as granddaughter, Tracy Trite.
She is survived by her son David ( Michelle) Trite, daughter, Joyce ( Craig) Anthony. Grandchildren, Billie Jo (Chris) Smith, Jennifer (Darryl Derk) Trite, Michael (Kayla) Trite, Nicole (Jason) Lyles, Justin Anthony, Jordan (Nicole) Anthony. 12 great grand children, 1 great great grandson; and a special friend, Charlene who looked out for and cared for Betty. She also was blessed by her care givers Teresa and Wanda, aka Wilma.
In addition looking forward to pie days, holidays for a full house of fun, in recent years, Betty spent a lot of time with her great granddaughters, Amelia and Karmia, aka, the Calamity Sisters. Betty often was teased relentlessly by her family, which made her both yell and laugh.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Leland at Laurel Run for offering phenomenal care for Betty and her guests.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, June 26, 2025 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Pastor Eric Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade, MD.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M., Wednesday evening, in the funeral home.
