Betty Lou Moneypenny, 85, of Ellenboro, WV, departed this life Monday, November 3, 2025, at Camden Clark Medical Center, in Parkersburg, WV, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on January 16, 1940, in Ellenboro, WV, a daughter of the late Jonathan and Sylvia (Dawson) Gilmore.
Betty was a proud graduate of Harrisville High School. Following graduation, she began her career as a nurse’s aide at the Colin Anderson Center, where she dedicated many years of compassionate service before retiring. After retirement, Betty continued to give back to her community as a foster grandmother at Harrisville Elementary School. She cherished her time with the children, always eager to lend a helping hand and share her kindness.
Betty had many joys in life. She loved watching NASCAR legends, Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr., collecting owls, shopping, dining out, solving crossword puzzles, and watching The Young and the Restless. She took great pride in decorating, particularly during the Christmas season.
Above all, Betty treasured the time she spent with her family, friends, and her beloved dog, Marta. She enjoyed visits from her meal delivery lady, Whitney Hinton and looked forward to her hair appointments with her dear friend, LouAnn Jenkins, where the two would talk and laugh for hours. Even at 85, Betty took care of her own laundry, dishes, and kept her house spotless.
She is survived by her loving sons, James Moneypenny (Pat) of Ellenboro, WV, and Tim Moneypenny (Rhonda) of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Angela Moneypenny of Ellenboro, WV, Andy Moneypenny (Nicole) of St.Marys, WV, Christian Moneypenny of Ellenboro, WV, Jada Moneypenny of PA; several loving great grandchildren; brother, Frank Gilmore of OH; special great granddaughter, Jordan Wilson whom she called “toodle doo”; and cherished friends, Louann Jenkins of Ellenboro, WV, Bill Black of Pennsboro, WV, and Richard Wilson of Ellenboro, WV.
In addition to Betty’s parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Franklin Moneypenny; sons, Mike Moneypenny and Stephen Moneypenny; siblings, Pvt. Richard Jonathan Gilmore, Russell Gilmore, Jeanette Blouir, Faynell Utter, Violet Quebedeaux, Helen Rhoushausen, and Donna Hinton.
A service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Raiguel Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Cairo Masonic Cemetery in Cairo, WV. A visitation will take place prior to the service, from 11am-1pm.
