Barbara King

Barbara Jean King, age 89, ran into the arms of Jesus on the morning of Thursday, October 16, 2025, as she slept beside her husband of nearly 66 years, James S. (Shorty) King, Sr.

Barbara was a phenomenal and exemplary wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a help and joy to everyone who knew her, and she devoted her entire being to her family. She loved the Lord with all of her heart, and she did her utmost to follow Him all the days of her life. Even in her confused last days, she would call upon God for help and mercy.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Melvin and Irene Wilson; infant sister Marie Wilson and beloved brother Bud Wilson.

Leaving behind to cherish her memory is the love of her life, husband Shorty. They would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Christmas Day. In addition to her husband, she leaves her children Gina Marie King, James Stanley King, Jr (Jerri McNeal King), and Stephen Wayne King. She also leaves her granddaughters Hayley King Treptow (DJ), Madison King Blackwell (Franklin); great-granddaughters Millie Grace Dockins and Palmer Jane Treptow; brother Marcus Wilson and her beloved puppy dog Bocephus. Also grieving her loss is her special friend and caregiver Yunaisy Silverio and Yuni’s children Noelia, Caleb and Natalia.

The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Monday, October 20, 2025, with funeral service to follow at 7 PM in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home. Rev. Clarence Gresham and Rev. Jeremy Gresham will officiate. A procession will leave Atchley Funeral Home at 11 AM Tuesday, October 21 in route to Pollard Cemetery for graveside service and interment.
