Audrey Dew
Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Audrey Jean Dew, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 26, 2025 in Lindon, Utah at age 93.
Audrey was born on April 23, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah at LDS Hospital to Sarah Jane Dee and Alfred Leroy Earnshaw. She was raised with her older brother, Jack, in Salt Lake City and Ogden, Utah until they moved to Southern California when Audrey was in middle school. After graduation from Washington High School in Los Angeles, California in 1950, Audrey attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where she studied speech correction and special education. Upon graduating from BYU, Audrey moved back to Southern California and taught special education in Redondo Beach. Teaching was very fulfilling for Audrey. She went on to work as an educator for nearly 20 years in a variety of classrooms, including second grade, resource, and special education.
While in Southern California, mutual friends set Audrey up on a blind date with Barry Dew. They went on a boat ride at MacArthur Park and the rest is history. Audrey and Barry dated for about a year and became great friends. They were married December 21, 1957 and sealed in the Los Angeles Temple in June 1958. Audrey and Barry enjoyed 42 adventurous years together before Barry passed away in 2000 following a valiant fight with colon cancer.
Audrey and Barry dedicated their lives to raising their five children. They had fond memories of playing games and camping in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Audrey and Barry loved their time in the mountains so much that they later built a cabin for their family to enjoy. One of Audrey’s favorite family memories was when they were on the TV game show “Family Feud” and won!
Audrey enjoyed sewing for her children and later her grandchildren. She made a “quillow” for each grandchild when they were baptized. Audrey was an avid reader, kitchen gadget collector, professional Costco shopper, competitive card player (especially SkipBo), and excellent cook. She was famous for her flaky pie crust and pecan and chocolate pies. Audrey was passionate about her pioneer heritage and was very involved with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was her family’s biggest supporter and was always at sporting events and dance recitals “with bells on.”
Audrey was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a temple ordinance worker at both the San Diego California and Provo Utah Temples for more than 25 years. Audrey spent her golden years doing genealogy. She logged hundreds of hours at her computer searching out names and doing temple work for ancestors she knew she would someday meet. Audrey found great joy singing in the church choir with her beautiful alto voice. She had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many church callings. She was an example of unwavering faith and hope in her Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Barry Lamar Dew), her parents, (Sarah Jane Dee and Alfred Leroy Earnshaw) and brother (Jack Wayne Earnshaw). Audrey is survived by her five children Brian (Cim) Dew, Karla (Jeff) Bowles, Lauri (Ron) Saffell, Bruce (Natalie) Dew, Brett (Stephanie) Dew, 19 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way.
Although Audrey will be greatly missed by her family and friends, we are comforted to know that she is enjoying a very happy reunion with the love of her life, Barry, after 25 years apart. We know that we will be with her again and be a family forever.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 925 East North Temple Drive, Provo, Utah. A viewing will be held from 10:00-10:45 am. Grave dedication following the service will be at East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery in Provo, Utah.
