Beals, Maine – Arthur L. Merchant passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 1, 2025, at his home on Beals.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ephriam Merchant Jr. and Olive (Merchant) Beal; a sister, a daughter, Crystal Gail Merchant; and his stepfather, Alvin Beal. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Wanda Merchant; and his children, Chastity Reynolds and husband, Wade, Darek Merchant and his wife, Tracy, Christopher Merchant, Sarah Merchant and fiance, Patrick Foucher, Patrick Merchant and wife, Morgan, Ian Alley and wife, Sabrina, Timothy Alley and wife, Trudy. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ethan and Rylee Reynolds, Howard Foucher, Nixon and Baby girl Merchant, Brooke and her husband, Joe, Avery, Samuel, Eli and Bexley Alley, Mallory and Owen Alley; along with special family members Joanne and Marvin Kelley; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Arthur or “Art,” as he was known by to most people always had a love for truck driving. He started out working at the worm/clam buyers on Beals, then moved to Milbridge where he was employed for L. Ray packing working many jobs associated with the factory. He also was on the fire department and was a police officer for the town of Milbridge, but his true passion was driving trucks and he drove for many years for lots of local businesses until he retired. He also had a few special names he would call his friends: bubba, sistah, or cuz. He also gave the best hugs around.
There will be a graveside service at Backfield Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
