Ann Wood, known for her warm smile and loving ways, passed away July 2, 2025 at the age of 84.
Born June 26, 1941, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Ann lived a life caring for her family and others. She never met a stranger and was known for her welcoming smile and love of children.
Her life of caring led her from her family to careers both in nursing and in elementary school teaching. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Drake University with a degree in Elementary Education. Her teaching style was one of “gather around children and I’ll tell you a story”. She always extended great love and caring towards her students.
As an active member of the daughters of the American Revolution for 20 years, she was Chaplain of the Iowa chapter for several years and was instrumental in founding a chapter of the Children of the American Revolution in Des Moines.
The church was always a big part of her life. She taught in Sunday School, served on the Altar Guild for many years, and attended many Bible Study Classes.
