Anissa Sooknanan

Anissa Sooknanan, 41, of Hamilton Township, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025.

Born in Mount Hope, Trinidad, Anissa was the beloved daughter of Florence and Narine Sooknanan.

A courageous and determined woman, Anissa was the first in her family to leave Trinidad and move to the United States, a testament to her strength and desire for growth. Her journey was one of resilience, a path she walked with a spirit of curiosity and an unwavering love for her family.

Anissa was a loving sister to Athaliah and Avianne, and cherished the memory of her late brother, Amit Sooknanan. Above all, Anissa’s greatest love was for her son, Nicholas. As a mother, she devoted herself to him with an intensity that set an incredible standard for parental love. Her care for Nicholas, even in the most difficult of times, was nothing short of heroic. Though Nicholas passed away last year, Anissa’s heart never stopped carrying his memory, and now, they are reunited in peace.

Anissa’s heart and soul were deeply shaped by her upbringing, and throughout her life, she remained connected to her roots, forever honoring the values and lessons imparted by her family. Her legacy is one of love, courage, and an ever-present desire to nurture and care for those around her.

She is survived by her parents, Florence and Narine; her loving sisters, Athaliah and Avianne; and the memory of her dear son, Nicholas. Anissa’s spirit will continue to live on in all who knew her, forever remembered for her kindness, her strength, and her devotion to family.

A private service will be held, and a celebration of Anissa’s life will be arranged by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Anissa’s memory to a charity that supports children and families in need.
