Angeline Veio
Angeline Veio, age 93, passed away on December 10,
2024, at Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch, California.
She was born on June 14, 1931 to George and Amalia
(Playannis) Sachlas in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada.
She was the daughter of Greek immigrants from the villages
of Potamia and Palaiopanagia, in Sparta, Laconia,
Greece. In Oshawa Angeline’s father opened a candy
store and a billiards hall, and Angeline helped out with
the family businesses. Angeline started her professional
career by working as an administrative assistant for General
Motors Canada and after working there for several
years, decided to transfer to the San Francisco, California
office. She moved into an apartment in Ocean Beach
with 3 Canadian girlfriends. While being invited on a
blind date, she met Jerome F. Veio Jr, an Oakland native,
who, 2 years later, she married and had two children
Stephen and Christine. They raised their children along
with Jerome’s son Michael Veio, in Piedmont and later
moved to Moraga, California where Angie resided for 53
years. In the late eighties Angeline returned to work for
another 10 years and retired as an administrative assistant
for the Liberal Arts department at Saint Mary’s
College in Moraga, CA.
An avid tennis player from the age of 40 to 92, Angie
was a tennis enthusiast as well as a bocce player and captain
of her bocce team in Moraga, CA. Angeline enjoyed
playing singles and doubles tennis, attending live professional
tennis tournaments – namely Indian Wells in
Palm Desert, CA, bocce, gardening, home improvement,
travel, walking, live theatre, eating dessert and spending
time with family and friends.
Angie lived an active lifestyle and was adventurous,
known for her energy, wit, and perseverance.
Those who knew Angie had humorous stories to tell
about their times together.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome F.
Veio Jr; her parents; and sibling Martha Kobus.
She is survived by her son Stephen G. Veio, her daughter
Christine (Stavros Klouvidakis), step son Michael Veio
(Mulumebet Worku), grandson, Orion, sister Toula Albrecht
and step nephew Greg Albrecht, nieces Karen
(Craig McParland) and Katherine Andrews.
Angie lived a wonderful life and will be missed by all.
A special thank you to all caregivers, friends and staff
for their loving care of our mother after she suffered a
stroke in Oct 2023. Funeral Services and Makaria luncheon
for close family and friends will be held at the
Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension, 4700 Lincoln
Avenue, Oakland, CA 94602 on Friday, January 3,
2025 at 10:00 AM. Interment, Mt. View Cemetery, Oakland,
