Anadelia Rios

A beloved wife, mother, and “grandma”, Anadelia Rios, 73, passed away on September 9 th , 2025. Ana was born in New York City on January 21st, 1952 to Simon Gil and Emilia Gonzalez and she resided in the lower east side of Manhattan for most of her life. Though she was a middle child, her disposition showed you she was anything but, as she possessed an A-type personality and she could command a room when she wanted to. She had no fear and would fight relentlessly for what she wanted or for what she believed in. In the late 60’she attended Seward Park High School where she met our father, Carlos Juan Rios, eventually marrying her high school sweetheart and starting a family shortly thereafter. They would eventually have six children together. Ana was an accomplished homemaker, raising six children while maintaining a household in Alphabet City during the tumultuous 70’s and 80’s. Despite the difficulties this time period presented, her generosity and kindness knew no bounds. If you were hungry, she fed you, if you needed to talk, she would listen, if you needed help, she aided you, and if you needed money, she would spare every penny she could. Our home was open to everyone, especially if you were family as many a relative would come stay with us over the years. She had an eye for fashion and was an adept interior decorator, so much so that many of her friends would solicit her help when designing their own homes. More impressive than her talent as a decorator was her brilliance in the kitchen. In her prime she could cook with the best of them and her holiday dinners where always the standout. Her food was so good that many of us over the years wondered why she never tried to open a restaurant. Like our father, she too was a fixture in the community, there wasn’t anyone she didn’t know or anyone she didn’t talk to, sometimes turning simple errands into hours long excursions. Anadelia is survived by her six children; Carlos Jr., Yvette, Jose, Eddie, Elena, Luis, her granddaughters Natalie and Jenna, her nephew Anthony, and her brother Teofilo. She will forever be in our hearts and minds and we thank her for giving life to us, for loving us, raising us, and for simply being our mom. The void left by her absence will reverberate for long a long time, but we take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with dad, her love of over 55 years.
