Obituary
Deaconess Alice Delores Hendrix
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, “Write: Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labour; and their works do follow them!
Revelation 14:13.”
Alice Delores Hendrix was born May 8, 1940, to the late Lovett and Elnora Etheridge, in Dallas County, Safford, Alabama. She was one of 10 siblings. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Baptist faith and attended all worship services with her parents and siblings on a regular basis.
On January 27, 1963, Alice united in marriage with her late husband Phillip Hendrix, Sr. They later relocated from Alabama to California. With this union they were blessed with three children, Jackie, Phillip M. Jr. and Nicole. Upon arrival in Los Angeles, they immediately united in membership with New Prospect Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of the Late Dr. Raymond E. Nance. Alice worked for the Compton Unified School District, in the Special Education Department for over 35 years. To further her education, she proved that it is never too late to gain more knowledge by returning to College, no matter your age. In so doing, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from California State University, Dominguez Hills, Carson, California. She was a dedicated employee and it gave her the greatest feeling to be able to help others in need. She retired in 2003.
She was a sharing and caring dedicated Woman of God. After retiring Alice had a lot of leisure time on hand, so she would spend time babysitting for friends, going on cruises with family, caring for her elderly friends, shopping, and cooking. She transitioned to eternal peace on Sunday, June 22, 2025.
Alice was preceded in death by her father and mother, Lovett and Elnora Etheridge; brothers, Willie, Joe and Grant Etheridge; sister Louise Etheridge-Young; She leaves to cherish her memory, children, Phillip M.
