Notre Dame’s Former Coach, Gerry Faust, Dies at 89

Gerry Faust, the former Notre Dame football coach and legendary high school coach, passed away on November 11, 2024, at the age of 89. A dream realized, Faust’s coaching career began at his alma mater, Chaminade High School, and later at Archbishop Moeller High School, where he led the Crusaders to multiple state and national championships. His success at the high school level earned him the coveted head coaching position at Notre Dame in 1981. Although his tenure with the Fighting Irish was mixed, Faust’s passion for the game and his dedication to his players were undeniable. He continued to contribute to the world of football as a coach and fundraiser at the University of Akron. Faust’s legacy as a highly respected coach and a true Notre Dame devotee will endure.
