Donnell Thompson, a former standout defensive end for the Indianapolis Colts, passed away on September 17, 2024, at the age of 65. Born in Lumberton, North Carolina, Thompson’s athletic prowess led him to a successful college career at the University of North Carolina. Drafted by the Colts in the first round of the 1981 NFL Draft, Thompson quickly established himself as a force on the defensive line. Known for his hard-hitting style and speed, he played 11 seasons with the team, contributing to their success. After his playing days, Thompson transitioned into entrepreneurship, becoming a successful business owner and community leader. His dedication to giving back to his community was evident in his various philanthropic endeavors, including providing meals to children during the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting local schools.
