Francis (Francie) Head,78, died unexpectedly, Wednesday December 18, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 Saturday afternoon, December 28, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello has taken Francie and her family into their care.
Surviving are her husband Dave, 2 children, Zach (Amy), Breanna (Gary), 6 grandchildren, Rylee, Lily, Jackson, Gracie, Eli and Gabby, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Francie McDonald was born January 26, 1946, at Burt, Iowa, the daughter of Francis and Helen Viola Smith, McDonald. She graduated from the Burt High School in 1964 and continued her education at Morning Side College, graduating in 1968 with a degree in Vocal Music and Instrumental Music. She taught in Washington D.C., Corning, Massena and Oelwein, Iowa. Francie married David Head July 30, 1977, at the Rose Garden in Des Moines. Francie came to Monticello in 1981 and taught Junior High vocal music for a year before she became the High School vocal music teacher. She retired from the Monticello Community Schools in 2002. She continued to teach vocal music in her home with students coming from Western Dubuque, Manchester, Independence and Monticello.
Francie and David enjoyed many trips to Chicago to enjoy everything from Opera to Jazz. She enjoyed shopping, camping at Bellevue and her flowers, her family and friends and her SOS group and winters in Florida.
Francie had directed the First Presbyterian Church Choir, Joyful Noise Choir, and Bravura her hand-picked choir.
