Marilyn J. (Bruyn) Louwerse, age 83, of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away at the UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospice Unit after an unexpected illness, surrounded by her loving family. In keeping with Marilyn’s loving and generous spirit, it was her decision to donate life so that others may live.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Peace Christian Reformed Church on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 11 AM, with Pastor Gary Brouwers officiating. Friends will be received starting at 9:30 AM.
Marilyn was born on November 14, 1941, in Edgerton, MN. She was the daughter of the late Danny and Elsie (Mesman) Bruyn. On June 14, 1961, Marilyn married the love of her life, Louis Louwerse in Hospers, IA. Marilyn lived her life serving others as a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, in addition to a loving daycare provider, caring cleaning lady, creative home interior representative, seamstress, and cake decorator. She enjoyed classical music, and travelling with her husband, family, and friends. Marilyn was a faithful and founding member of the Peace Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in service/mission trips, Sunday School, VBS, Calvinettes, Bible Study, and volunteering at Bridgehaven’s Treasures Resale Store.
Those left to cherish Marilyn’s memory are her husband, Louis, of Cedar Rapids, IA; her children, Mark (Lorene) Louwerse, of Des Moines, IA, Daniel Louwerse, of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Sarah (Curtis) Struwe, of Lake City, MN; her grandson, Caden Struwe; her sisters, Brenda (Fred) Blom, Diane (Pete) Van Kley, and Lori (Harve) Keunen, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, LuAnn Marie Louwerse, and her brother, Robert Bruyn.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Peace Christian Reformed Church.
The family would like to thank the Peace Church family for all the support received during this difficult time.
