Nicole Weber Kubešová
Hviezdoslavov, Slovakia
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nicole Weber Kubešová, 49, on November 5th, 2024, in Hviezdoslavov, Slovakia after a courageous battle with cancer.
Nicole was born on December 19th, 1974 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Loras (Butch) and Carole Weber. She graduated from Regis High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Iowa in 1998. After graduation, her adventurous spirit and dedication to volunteerism took her to Moldova with the United States Peace Corps where she taught elementary students for two years in the village of Costesti. Working with young children was her life’s calling, and upon completing her service in 2000, Nicole moved to Slovakia where she taught for QSI Bratislava, Benjamin Kindergarten, and Forel International School. During this time she also spent two years teaching at Msr American College in Cairo, Egypt.
Nicole is survived by her loving husband of 16 years, Matej, her daughter Lucy (15), her son Julius (13), her father Loras (Butch) Weber, her sister Kristen Weber (Edward Zelasko), her brother Jon Weber (Randi), and younger sister Kaitlyn Weber (Israel Higuera) and many members of the Kubest family in Slovakia. She also leaves behind many friends all around the world. She was preceded in death by her mother, Carole Weber.
Nicole believed that learning was the most important aspect of life. Throughout her life, Nicole traveled extensively, visiting 18+ countries and she instilled this sense of curiosity and exploration in the children she taught, her family, and her friends. She also encouraged learning and empathy through the power of reading. Her superpower was her ability to teach children to read, and to get them excited about books. Nicole’s dedication to learning and teaching will continue to have a profound impact on all that she touched. She will be remembered as a compassionate, loving, adventurous, curious, and caring mother, wife, teacher, and friend.
Memorial services and a Catholic mass and burial were held in Casta, Slovakia.
