Marilyn Esther Corkery, 88, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at her home. Per Marilyn’s wishes, private family services will be held. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Marilyn was born on September 18, 1936, in West Union, Iowa, the daughter of Merlin and Esther, (Suckow) Bachman. She graduated from Fayette High School. On October 1, 1957, Marilyn was united in marriage to William “Bill” Vincent Corkery in Iowa City, Iowa. Together, they had three children. Marilyn loved fishing, Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball, watching NASCAR racing, playing bingo, and doing scratch-off tickets. But her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially going to her grandchildren’s softball games. Marilyn will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marilyn is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Cindy (Gary) Collins of Marion; daughters-in-law, Sharon Corkery and Mary Corkery; eleven grandchildren, Jillian (Charles) Kennedy of Hiawatha, Iowa, Christiana “CJ” (Dennis) Kennedy of Austin, Texas, Amanda (Brandon) Kennedy of Cedar Rapids, Amber (Shawn) Corkery of Deltona, Florida, Stephanie (Kevin) Corkery of Sioux City, Iowa, Brandon (Abby) Corkery of Cedar Rapids, Brea (Billy) Adams of Diberville, Mississippi, Tanya Corkery of Rittman, Ohio, Tara Corkery of Cleveland, Ohio, Justin (Jen) Collins Dyersville, Iowa, and Heather Collins-Johnson of Cedar Rapids; 17 greatgrandchildren; and five siblings, Sharon Wilkinson of Atkins, Iowa, Connie (Neal) Jennings of Hudson, Wisconsin, Jim Bachman of Hazelton, Iowa, Jeanette (Hal) Arment of Overland Park, Kansas, and Delores Orr of Fayette, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Corkery in 2017; sons, Blaine Corkery in 2022 and Bradford “Brad” Corkery in 2022; great-granddaughter, Fiona; brother, Gene Bachman; sister-in-law, Louise Bachman; and brothers-in-law, Bill Orr and Tom Wilkinson.
Memorials in Marilyn’s memory may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy of Hiawatha, Iowa, or Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
