Don was born March 29,1943, at St. Luke’s hospital, Cedar Rapids, IA, to Alma Hack Meier and Melvin C Meier. Don was united in marriage to Marilyn Malone on December 6, 1969. Don was a lifelong member of the Clarence-Lowden community, was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church, and a graduate of Lowden High school in 1961.

Don was an exceptional farmer and lived on the family farm for 77 years. He enjoyed all aspects of farming but was most passionate about cattle feeding. He was a charter member of the Iowa Cattleman’s Association and served 9 years on the board of the Clarence Cooperative. He was a steward of the land and took pride in agriculture being a cornerstone of America. Don passed his passion for farming on to his family, and he and his grandson have worked closely together over the last several years to pass on the long-standing family tradition of farming.

Don enjoyed restoring tractors in his spare time and was a charter member of Deer Valley Collectors. Over the years he restored an entire series of John Deere tractors. He was proud of his work and displayed it at tractorcades, parades, shows and even had one of them displayed at the John Deere Museum in Moline, IL.

Don was a very active member of the community and will be missed by his many friends. In his later years he enjoyed morning visits over coffee and afternoon euchre games.

Don was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church community. He served as a church elder for several years and was a member of the endowment committee for 30 years. He passed his strong faith and commitment to the Lord onto his family.

Don is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Marilyn; daughter Melissa (Chad) Alden of Park View, IA; son Myatt (Maria) Meier of Plainville, MA; grandchildren Kylie Hillmann Gray, Koby (Shelby) Hillmann, Carson & Emma Meier, as well as three great-granddaughters that he adored, Emery and Brynley Gray, and Hattie Hillmann. Don is also survived by his sister, Judy Meier Sevier and his aunt, Ina Hack.

Don was very proud of his entire family.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters in law; and several aunts and uncles.

Don will be missed by his family and community of friends.
