Darrell Lee Carter, 71, of Cedar Rapids, IA died the morning of November 11, 2024 at his home. Graveside services will be conducted November 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Union Cemetery, rural Hartwick, IA. Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Services are taking care of the family.

Darrell Lee Carter was born on September 13, 1953 the son of Stacy and Josephine (Jansen) Carter in Belle Plaine, IA. Darrell was raised on a farm in rural Keystone, IA and later in Belle Plaine, IA. Darrell moved to Cedar Rapids as an adult and lived at a Discovery Living Group Home for the last ten years.

Darrell will be remembered for his love of flowers, music, coffee, and soda pop. Special thanks to Discovery Living, Inc. and to Milestones Adult Day Care in Marion for his wonderful care. Also, a special thanks to Hospice of Mercy who cared for Darrell in his final days.

Darrell is survived by a sister, Shirley Bell; and brother Dean (Rita) Carter, all of Marion. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, cousins, and an aunt, Monica Jansen.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, DuWayne Carter; half-sister, Veronica Flynn Wilson, and numerous aunts and uncles.
