Delhi

Patrick Henry Huber, 89, of Delhi, died on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics due to complications following a stroke.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Friday, November 8, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earlville celebrated by his son, Rev. Henry Huber, concelebrated by Rev. Chris Podhajsky. Family will greet friends from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home in Manchester. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Earlville.

Patrick was born March 11, 1935, in Earlville, Iowa, the son of Cyril and Edna (Lechtenberg) Huber. He graduated from Earlville High School in 1953. On August 29, 1959, Patrick was united in marriage to Delphine Harks at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. He farmed near Delhi for years and enjoyed a second career as a driver for CRST, hauling freight all over the country. Patrick also served as a safety trainer for CRST, instructing and mentoring new drivers. He often heard from those drivers in later years that they did not appreciate his lessons in the moment but recognized the importance of his training methods when they were out on the road on their own. In retirement Patrick loved working on projects around the farm, mowing lawn and playing cards with his friends at the Earlville fire station. Patrick and his family will be eternally grateful to those friends for the kindness they showed him after he stopped driving, picking him up for card games and bringing him home afterwards for the past few years. His Catholic faith was very important to him, and he especially enjoyed any time spent with his family.

Patrick is survived by his six children, Patsy (Pat) Patterson of Bradenton, Florida; Jane Huber of Brookfield, Illinois (Keith); Joe (Jane) Huber of Delhi; Cleta (Mike) Ehrhart of Mount Juliet, Tennessee; Linda (Abid) Sheikh of Cary, North Carolina and Rev. Henry Huber of Calmar; and nine grandchildren, Hannah (Travis) Regan of Ankeny; Kate Huber of Delhi; Alex Patterson of Bradenton, Florida; Claire (JC) Barrera of Palmetto, Florida; Nick Ehrhart of Mount Juliet, Tennessee; Aleena Sheikh of Durham, North Carolina and Iman, Nadeem and Anya Sheikh of Cary, North Carolina; great-grandchildren Eli and Jax Barrera of Palmetto, Florida; sister-in-law Martha Huber of Manchester; brother-in-law Calvin (Karen) Harks of Brandon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Patrick was preceded in death by his wife, Delphine; his parents, Cyril and Edna Huber; his brother, Roger Huber; and his grandson, Bennett Ehrhart.
